The Verifone CEO is inaccurate in his assessments of Square’s, or other similar provider, security requirements. These companies actually have to follow the same guidelines (PCI compliance and so on) that Verifone is required to follow.
Another point, for someone to assume that Starbucks or anyone of the like would stick with an incumbent such as Micros certainly has not reviewed emerging technologies such as Leapset and others.
IMHO, the Verifone CEO is attempting to deflect their archaic ways. If they do not make the jump, they will not be a company within the next few years.
