The toy industry wants to make building toys appealing to girls. Goldieblox CEO Debbie Sterling says making them pink is not enough.
this is that interview I told you about … very cool thing she’s doing.
I think this is a great idea because toys can shape how a child thinks of what she can do when she grows up. Just like EZ-Bake Ovens and toy refrigerators taught girls a common idea about being caretakers targeting toys for creativity and building the appeal to how girls’ minds works might help bring more and more kids into STEM majors when they go to college. As a young girl in Iran I can tell you we were very influenced by what adults gave us to play with and what they told us our destinies should be. That should never be the case for any child that they are shown only one way to live their future.
